Simply the Best: How Awesome is this?

Phillies Monica Bay rocks! If you don't know, she's the author of The Common Scold - and she was nice enough to include me in her Top Ten Best Blogs. (I can't deny the fact that you like me, right now, you like me!)

With this distinction, however, comes responsibility. I now have the almost impossible task of narrowing my favorite blogs down to ten. By being named, these fantastic bloggers are asked to submit on their blogs their own top-ten list.

Faced with a daunting task, I've adopted a few rules:

  1. I can't name The Common Scold. Though I would, Monica has already done her list and I want to see how other bloggers vote;
  2. I'm also not going to name any of the blogs that Monica named (for the same reason). I will note, however, that I regularly enjoy reading May it Please the Court, Al Nye the Lawyer Guy, Overlawyered, and Ernie the Attorney. All four of these blogs are wonderful.
  3. Finally, I'm only going to name law-related blogs, which means that LitPark, The Nervous Breakdown, and about 100 blogs that feed into my Google Reader won't get on my list.

So with those rules in mind, I present to you my top ten "Simply the Best" law-related blogs:

  1. Minor Wisdom: Raymond Ward's blog is a wonderful mix of legal discussion, writing tips, life wisdom, and the general musings of a soulful man. He also encouraged me to start blogging and has been a true friend over the last several years.
  2. CAAFLog: This is the premiere blog about military law. Among other things, this blog's slight list towards appellate law has made me a huge fan. Dwight Sullivan leads his merry band of marauders through the mine-laden waters of military justice. And he makes the trip fun.
  3. The Volokh Conspiracy: What can I say that someone else hasn't said better? Simply a great blog.
  4. Arbitrary and Capricious: An enjoyable blog written from an Idaho public defender's point of view.
  5. Appellate Law & Practice: A place of great legal commentary and a wonderful source on up-to-date rulings from our appellate courts.
  6. Althouse: How could I not love this blog? Ann talks about the law, politics, art, and just about anything else that comes to her mind. If she wrote more about booze and baseball it would be perfect.
  7. The Art Law Blog: Donn Zaretsky's blog about art and the law and what happens when those two worlds collide.
  8. Legalwriting.net: Wayne Schiess's corner of the web - the legal writing cafe, open 24/7.
  9. Blonde Justice: An erudite defense attorney with a good dose of common sense and a great sense of humor. She must be busy - she doesn't post everyday.
  10. Begging the Question: A really smart blog written by guys of average intelligence. Just kidding - anyone that idolizes Chevy Chase and Dan Aykroyd has to be brilliant.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention the now offline Crime & Federalism, which was a great example of what a good blog should be. C&F was a blog that would have made almost everyone's top-ten list.

I must also give honorable mention to The (new) Legal Writer. It's not on the list for two reasons. First, I already listed one legal-writing blog. Second, I already listed one of Raymond Ward's blogs (see, rule 1). It's a great blog though, and Ray works very hard to provide good information.
